Cumann na mBunscol Hurling & Camogie Finals

Posted on May 27, 2022 by 5th & 6th Class Posted in Blog, School Archives, School News

Our camogie and hurling team were in the Cumann na mBunscol Group B Final on Tuesday the 17th of May. The teams were very hard working and were excited for the final.

Both teams were up against Kinnitty on the day. The lads were very close with a goal from Harry Larkin and a goal from Darragh Carty. Everyone tried their best and that’s all we could’ve hoped for. In the end we lost by 1 goal (1 goal is the same as 2 points).

The girls redeemed us with a heroic win of 12,7 Killeen to 2,1 Kinnitty. Brilliant goals were scored by Juliet O’Brien, Ruby Oakley, Ella Stokes and Ali Smyth. The girls were over the moon with their win and hope it carries throughout the years.

On Wednesday after lunch the camogie team got awarded with their medals by the school principal, Ms Whelahan. The whole school was watching and waving flags for our school team.

After the medal presentation, the school surprised both teams with food from the chippers. Everyone enjoyed the food and we hope everyone had a blast at the games!

A special thanks to Mr McArdle, Ms Dynan, Ger Oakley, Mike Larkin and Tom Carty for training us and we hope we will have mighty teams next year, and a huge thanks to all our supporters and parents for driving us to every single training or match.

Easter Fundraiser by 6th Class

Posted on May 9, 2022 by 5th & 6th Class Posted in Blog, School News

This year, our amazing 6th class organised a fundraiser for the people of Ukraine and also to raise money for our school tour. We decided to make and sell flower pots at Easter. Firstly, Mahé and Eve calculated how much the pots would cost to make and how many we would need to sell to make a profit. They also designed a poster and business cards. Then we went up to the polytunnel in groups. We did six pots each. We did around 120 pots in total. We put two different coloured flowers in the front and one big one in the back. We also added an Easter bunny decoration. We took turns to water them every day. When collection day came, we were put into five groups, each group was in charge of a different class. All the students gave out the planters to their assigned class. We made some extra plants in baskets that some people bought aswell. Everyone got their pots and went home happy !

Here are our unbelievable figures;

DescriptionIncomeExpenditure
Planter sales€1437.00
Flower pots and bunnies€311.81
Flowers from Milltown Garden Centre€450.00
Total Profit€675.19
Donation to Red Cross €360.19
Contribution Towards School Tour€315.00

All of 6th Class were very proud with the total income and kindly decided to donate €360.19 to the Red Cross Foundation in honour of Ukraine. We thank Ms. Dynan for gathering the materials and we thank students, teachers and parents for buying the planters. We hope that everyone enjoyed their Easter Planters and I hope Ukrainians have found shelter from this awful war .
